Hi everyone,

I'm building a hybrid acoustic / electronic kit for my small project studio. My intention is to have a mainly acoustic set but with an electronic bass drum (and use the rest of the electronic kit for flexibility when needed). The electronic set will have MIDI going into Logic Studio, and maybe I'll use the MIDI data to trigger some samples if I don't care for the sounds that the DTXplorer makes.

I managed to acquire a set of Sabian cymabls (AA and AAX) very cheaply, and also a used Yamaha DTXplorer as the basis for the kit. Might have a Tama Kenny Aronoff Trackmaster Signature 5x14 snare on the way.

What do you think, would a Roland KD-120 V-Drum Bass Drum trigger be a good upgrade to replace the bass drum trigger that comes with the Yamaha DTXplorer kit? And would they be compatible? Since the bass drum is an important part of the elctronic side of the kit, I'd like one that feels good and works well. Is $225 a reasonable price for one of these (pretty new, used lightly)?

If I want to use the Roland KD-120 bass drum trigger, would it be better to pair it with a Roland brain, do you think?

Any thoughts in general about this set-up would be appreciated, too. I have very little experience, but I'm looking to put together a set that will record well. Right now I've got everything I need in my project studio except the drums. Thanks!
