Hey,

Today Apple launched GarageBand... software for mixing and recording music. Any thoughts? I hope this connects to my vDrums for midi recording... that would be sweet!

Since Apple acquired Emagic, and since I've been a faithful Logic user from back when it was known as Notator, I can tell right away that it looks like the audio engine picked away from Logic Audio and "dumbed down" a tad to reduce the rather steep learning curve associated with Logic. It appears that any MIDI info is internalized into their "loops", which would connect to the what appears to be 30 or so internal instruments included. So, whether or not you can MIDI your v-drums to the sequences is a good question but I would guess probably not, since it's shooting for that all-in-one composition solution. You could, however, play them in through your soundcard via live performance. This looks like a damned good toy but I certainly wouldn't use it to make music with (predetermined loops, etc.). It's like picking a tattoo off the wall at the parlor. All my sequences and recordings are done from scratch and are played in (except in the rare occasion that a certain loop will assist the composition). I'd go with Logic rather than this if you're doing serious composition and production.
