hi,

as you guys may or may not know, i'm looking for drums for my boyfriend for christmas. his congas got stolen a few years ago. i'm leaning toward schalloch because they get good reports and are in my price range.

i'm deciding between a quinto/conga set with bongos or a conga set with bongos - so, not knowing much about drums except what i saw online in the last few days...

- what's the difference between a quinto and a conga?
- i'm sure personal preference plays in, but what are the good/bad re: quinto/conga set or congas set?

help much much appreciated.

thanks!
rachel

or this

with a separate bongo set.....

just a little confused....i'm a classical violinist and have no clue about hand drums, so please forgive me if i'm asking stupid questions Smile

The supertumba can be as large as 14 inches across (35.5 cm).
The tumba is typically 12 to 12.5 inches across (30.5 to 31.8 cm).
The conga is typically 11.5 to 12 inches across (29.2 to 30.5 cm).
The quinto is typically around 11 inches across (about 28 cm).
The requinto can be smaller than 10 inches across (24.8 cm).

Above are some terms and sizes.
In a two drum "conga"setup most traditional players start with a conga and a tumba as opposed to a quinto and a conga.
