Has anyone spent any time investigating these?

I'm seriously considering another kit and have my eyeballs on one.

They are offering a 20X20" bass drum, 12" mounted tom and 14" and 16" floor toms all having dark nickel brushed hardware and fully accepts DW mounting gear. Included are DieCast hoops for every drum and a very stout matched set of wood bass drum hoops. Get this, the kit is all Maple shells, too.

This set is killer and is priced at $800 USD.

I was at GC last night and they'd just gotten it in. I helped set it up and we changed out the heads to EC2's and hoooboy did that set get up and dance.

I might be having one before the week is out.

I've looked at them, but I never saw anything that stood out from any other Custom kit.

Another kit, Bish? Did they sound as good as your new Renown Maples? I looked at a set of ddrums locally and was pretty impressed. Their higher end stuff looks about as good as the big boys.

Another kit...yes!

I just got that kit I was speaking of, yesterday.

Pics are posted above.

It doesn't sound like the Gretsch at all but has a real deep punchy tone to it that is neither better or worse than the Gretsch kit.

They both have very different personalities. The Ddrums seem more for hard boomy rock where the Gretsch can be used for subtly as well as grooving.

I plan to use the Ddrums for outdoor gigs and the Gretsch will strictly be used inside.

Ooops, I forgot to mention.

I was looking at a 4 pc set on MF but it was exclusive to MF and GC couldn't get it.

So they offered to match the price from MF. So I got this $800 kit for 650 and they included a set of new Aquarians at no charge, for all the drums including kick.

Oooohlahah Very Happy

Are those hoops powdercoated or glazed? IMHO you should consider getting your floor tom legs, cymbal stands, and other hardware bits powdercoated or glazed to match! I really like the sizes. The cymbals help the futuristic look of the kit.

I'm not sure, but the hardware on the kit looks like black chrome to me.

$650 for that kit and a new set of Aquarian heads is outstanding. That is a lovely set of drums. Is that a wrap or lacquer?

It's not a wrap. No seams.

These pix do not do it justice. The kit looks more amazing the more I stare at it.

Also, I blundered on the heads. They are Evans heads. But I got a Superkick II for the bass drum.

If you promise not to laugh at my playing, I recorded a sound demo.

It's about 40 MB so it takes a few minutes to download. Please don't laugh at my playing, I just brought the camera down, set it up and played for a few minutes. Truly the little cam/mic, did not do this set justice.

NO LAUGHing..... Very Happy

And in comparison, here's a snip using the Gretsch drums

You're right. Those kits sounds completely different. I would have to say that I prefer the Gretsch for everything except that monster ddrum bass drum. That thing is a beast. What heads do you have on the Gretsch kit?

I figured the ddrum kit was lacquered. Just wanted to make sure. It kind of sounded like the snare wires were a bit choked on the ddrum snare. I would probably loosen them up a bit, but that might just be the result of the recording. Anyway, nice job on acquiring two beautiful drum kits.

Thanks, bytor.

I have performace II's on the Gretsch. Superkick II on the bass drum.

Yes, I haven't spent much time tweaking to sound on the snare. For a 13" it's pretty snappy so I have a bit of a learning curve on that one.

I've got a Ddrum Ash Pocket in the Red Burst finish. I love it... And I'm using Aquarian Performance II's with Powerdots for the toms and Aquarian Superkick II for the bass... The toms sound amazing. Loud as hell too. I'll get some pictures up in a little!

I just replaced the EC2's with Remo pinstripes....WOW. Now there's the maple I'm used to.

And I replaced the Factory snare with an EC2. Go figure.

Now I'm using the kit to gig with... Very Happy
