Well I think you can't subcatagorize the drummer's level to the style he (or she Razz) is playing. I mean Dennis Chambers plays the most amazing and complicated Jazz grooves, while Vinnie Colaiuata can play these completely out-of-borders-things Very Happy.
So basically, no real answer can be given here Smile

That's like comparing apples to oranges. Jazz players aren't better or worse than rock players, and vice versa. The players who are truely good are the ones who can do both, like Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, and Vinnie Coliauta.

Can't really be compared... but playing different style will make you better at any style. In other words, playing jazz can improve your creativity and timing for rock or any style... the more willing you are to learn different genres, the better you will play overall.

IMO, advanced Jazz sounds and seems the most complicated... but then I don't have too much experience with funk beats.

I see what your saying... but at the same time... if he prefered Funk he probably would have been just as amazing and "above other drummers" as he is in Jazz. So, IMO, just cause he took jazz to amazing hights, doesn't mean Jazz is the hardest or most complex.
