I am having real trouble getting bounce using my left hand. I can do it ok if I am only using my left hand but when I'm playing the hi-hat with my right and wanna get a full bounce on the snare with my left it just won't happen for me.
Is this something that just needs practise, practise, practise?
I hold the left and right the same way .... thumbs on top. |

This may be a bit obvious but try and loosen your grip a bit. Proper bounce came for me over time. |

| I too would say loosen your grip. It's funny, because i don't remember how i did it. I remember when I first started drumming, I could not get bounce with my left hand for so long, and then one day, it just worked. it's wierd how that happens, cause it happens to me a lot. Same with the double stroke with a single pedal, one day it just worked!! |

I'm going to follow the train of suggestions and again, say that loosening up your grip and having the tightest part be at your thumb and forefinger (your fulcrum), as well as perhaps turning your left hand a bit more so that more of the back of your hand is on top may help. As well, make sure there is a space between your thumb and forefinger. Also, be sure to make use of your fingers.
After that, alot of it is practice.
Post back if you have any more trouble with this, though.
good luck! |

I am still not doing too well but improving slowly following your advice. Trouble is now when I get the stick just right and loose I bounce when I don't mean to ..... lol. I will practise till it hurts! |

Hey there, glad to see you're making some ground.
Please, DON'T practice until it hurts! If it hurts than your body is telling ya to stop! (I know you're prolly not serious, but I had to say that)
As for the whole lil "Your mom is calling...." bit, I'm really not sure what's going on exactly. It seems to come whenever the phrase "When I" is entered. Will see about getting the admin to look into this. |
