Yeah, I liked those, Mfran. Very Happy I don't know what's going on either, but I've noticed some disappearing posts, as well. Your thesis on drum thrones was downright publishable, heh. Razz

thanks man, I know I revised it enough times to want to read it again myself!!

And then people sent me links of the same throne but with 3 legs instead of 5, I know it sounds sad, but I miss that post... Sad

I recommend the Roc n Soc thrones. They are truely the best, listen to this (it's long but it has a point):

Last winter, I was up early packing up my gear as I usually am on a Saturday morning, getting ready for the drive to the next gig. I live in Wisconsin, so the cold and snow are..... well, expected. I owned a Mazda something or other van/suv. Big thing, four wheel drive, the works and worked well to hall my stuff in.

Anyways I'm leaving on a very snowy morning and am about 2 miles from my house when I came over a hill and a deer jumped out in front of me. That's another expected thing in the winter in WI; deer, they are everywhere. I, of course out of instinct, instead of ramming the poor devil, braked and swerved heading into the ditch and rolling the van with my Pearl Masters Customs (cases of course) and all my equipment in the van. The van was dead. Amazingly, the drums came out without a scratch (thank god because I would have been in tears to see my pearls destroyed) I lost $1200 dollars in cymbals and hardware though. The cymbals were in a soft case and flew out a window, they bent and crushed, only one or two came out alive out of nine total cymbals. I actually still have some of them, my A Custom Projection ride is bent basically in half, but now it kind of sounds like a gong.

The whole point of the story was about the throne though. The Roc n Soc busted out one of my back windows and flew about half way out as the van landed on its side, right on top of the throne. After about an hour and a half of snow accumulation and waiting, the van was lifted off the poor roc and soc throne that was holding it up. I was sure that thing was toast but it wasn't. It was in PERFECT shape. No kidding here, perfect. Nothing, no scratches, no tears, nothing. After that I knew that it was not only the most comfortable but the most well constructed throne I had ever come in contact with. Very durable, very reliable, very comfortable. Just thought I would share my experience with you all. It wasn't pleasant, but I came out alright and really changed how I viewed equipment construction.

Oh, and I was hit in the head with my uncased snare during the crash. Took a big old gouge out of my head, I should have received stiches. So instead of going to the hospital, I hitched a ride to the gig and played our set on some one elses kit. Ahh....The life of a gigging drummer.

Wow Shocked Pretty intense story. Sorry to hear about the lost gear/injury Crying or Very sad Your post definitely does reassure me about the construction of the throne, though...I just better hope I don't put on 2,500 pounds before I get one. Wink

I have had a few different thrones over the years and the best I have ever had is my Gibraltar. Also, if you play double bass, or you use your HiHat pedal a lot, be sure to get a "Saddle" style throne. It leaves more of your leg free to move.
