Hi there,

I'm making afro house music via pc. All the percussion arrangement i make it via keyboard. Now i'm about to buy congas and play live (recording). I don't know many things about that. As i saw at thomann there some kinds of congas. 10''-11'' , 11''-12'', 11 3/4'' and i don't how many others.
My questions are:

1) What is the difference?
2) With 300 euros what kind of congas do u suggest me? I saw LP Aspire Conga Set 11"-12" Natur (http://www.thomann.de/thoiw2_artikel-184962.html) good?

Well the only thing that i know is what kind of sound i want to have. For example u can listen my track and check the sound of conga that i want. Link : http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=441451

Thanx in advance,
Johnnyboy.

the difference is really just like the differences in buying a drum set. manufacturers change the type of wood, the thickness, the plies, the hardware (lugs, tension rods, etc.), the heads, etc. while i'm no expert, i'd say find all of the congas in your price range and ask specific questions about those ones. i'm in somewhat of a similar market so post up here what you find out.

The smallest of the three is the Quinto. The middle sized drum is the Conga and the largest is the Tumba. As you have noticed they come in a variety of sizes within those designations. I've owned GonBops, (pre-DW ownership) LP and Toca. The Toca's were the most affordable and sounded great as well. Of course the others sound great too. The old GonBops have that traditional cuban sound. Personally I'd stay away from the bottom rung lines unless that's all you can afford. My advice is to start with the conga and tumba and add the quinto later if you want. You might want to consider fiberglass drums with synthetic heads. They are louder and easier on your hands.
Good luck! Cool

I'd probably look at Toca and LP Aspires. Both are great for the price.
