| Has anyone ever heard of Acclaim Drums from Zenith? I'm looking for an entry level set, and I can get a 5 piece with all cymbals, hardware, etc for $325. I'm not expecting them to be elite, obviously, but are they good enough so I don't have to spend over $500 for Sonor, Tama, etc...If these aren't good, any recommendations? |

| I always recommend to stay away from entry level kits. Go with an old quality set like Ludwig, Slingerland, Rogers, etc. With a little shopping on ebay these can be found for the same price plus hold their value for when your ready to sell or trade for something newer. Also, do the same with cymbals. For example, I got my son a Ludwig set (225) hihat and footpedal (40), A Zildjians 14 hihats, 16 crash and 20 ride(200). He played them a couple of years then sold them for 600. Get the idea? |

i just picked up a ranger 5 piece, no crash, but paiste ride and hi-hat for $AU60, from some guy i met in the pub the other night. I'm pretty much drum-illiterate, so any help people could give me in tuning them etc would be tops.
i guess its not a hint, but keep your eyes out - bargains have a habit of leaping out from nowhere. i wasnt even looking for a kit. _________________ is it really worth having one of these? i mean whats the point? really |

| I've gotten good deals in the Re-Cycler paper you can check that out. Local drum shops also sell used kits from time to time. I agree with others here, you're better off getting a used set with a better name than a brand new no name kit. A while back the Guitar Center out here had a used set of Ludwigs, 4 piece, but the snare was a Gretch. 400 bucks, but no cymbals or hardware of course. The drums were in great shape, had a white marble type wraps that kind of yellowed because the drums were pretty old. This was the set that got stolen from me, from right under my nose at a club I was playing. Someone just took them right out the back door while I was in another part of the building. I was beyond mad! But that's another story. |
