| My son has a seven piece DW kit and I am looking to get him a set of cases. My problem is the nominal size of each drum is not the actual size (ex. 8x7 tom is 8 1/2" rim to rim, 9 1/2" lug to lug, and 7 1/2" lug to lug top to bottom). I want the cases to fit well without undue play, but I don't want to shoe horn them on either. Anyone have experience with this issue? |

cases are built to accomodate the extra length of the rims and the extra width of the lugs. so, you dont need to do any precise measurement of each drum to figure the exact dimensions... just buy cases that are marked for the nominal size of the drums you have.
the only issue might be the suspension mounts... if they stick out too far, then you might have to remove them to get the drums into cases. it really depends on the specific brand of case how much extra room there is to accomodate the mounting hardware. maybe someone here has some experience with DWs + cases and can share their wisdom? _________________
