I found this snare on an online auction
does anyone recognize which snare this could be ?

The owner says it is a Sonorus Superior Class
can anyone tell me anything about this snare drum ?
how much would it be worth buying ?

good guess, babse !
i found the website from the manufacturer (http://www.sonorus.be) and mailed them some questions

these are the answers i got:

it's a marching snare, made between 1945 and 1960
it has a birch shell
and the edges are strengthened with beech
the hardware is chromed brass

i still don't know if i would make an offer Question
but thanx for the help !

That very same shell construction was used by other manufacturers at that time (like Premier).
It's responsible for the typical flat sound.
I think the snare would be suitable for use as a jungle snare (if you let the snares rattle like a rattlesnake), but don't expect to get a clean, crisp or bright sound out of it.

(you're welcome btw Smile )
