New to the site, and finding it fun to explore. Just started working with an re-established group, and trying to get down their material. Finding that comfortable medium between what I've heard from them, and how I want the music to reflect my individual style. Any suggestions on how to "be myself"? Also, I need to get a new (used?) kit. I'm fortunate in that I have a "drum fund", and can spend upwards of 4 thousand. I'm all set with cymbals, but would LOVE to get some ideas of what drums and hardware to buy! I'm loving the sound of Yamaha, DW, Mapex, and Sonar kits - but aren't sure of the specifics regarding oak/ maple/ birch materials. I would like a single kick, with three T's across, and one or two suspended floor T's. I love my Pork Pie snare, and my Pearl little snare...you know that feeling when you fall in love with a certain piece of equipment?
Thanks for your suggestions, and sorry for the long read!

Well *Holy Censor, Batman*, that's quite a budget you have there if you already have your cymbals. (well, if that budget is in US$. 4000 yen won't get you much, lol)You pretty much have your pick of all of the nice kits Smile People can give you suggestions but really, you would be best to just see which ones have the right finish, feel, sound for you. From Mapex, to Pearl, to Tama, to Gretsch, to Yamaha, you can get all of their top kits for that much money.

As for the woods: birch, maple, and mahogany - none are better than the others! They all have certain qualities to their sound. Price wise from lowest to highest is birch, maple, and true mahogany, but that has to do with supply and demand and not how "good" they are.

Anywho, welcome to the forums Smile

Welcome to Drumdogs.

With that kind of budget you could get two really decent sets from different manufacturers and have a field day.
