I have an Acrolite with the black/white USA badge, with the black sparkle finish. This snare sounds great. My question is, what is this drum made of? Is it aluminum? Also, what do you think the value is for this drum? Any background on this snare would really be helpful. Is badge from 80's/90's?

Thanks

Acrolites have aluminum shells. That finish is a powdercoat. I think you could get more than $70 for it if it's in good condition, but I'd keep it. They're great sounding snares.

Yours was a very good deal. You like the drum? I love my Acrolite, but I'm not using it a whole lot at the present time.

Thanks for your input. This Acrolite is in perfect condition....Like new. I gave $120.00 for it along with a Ludwig back pack. I really like the snare, I was just wondering how old it could be. I understand that the black-white USA badge went from the early 80's into the 90's. The badge number is 6275616. I'm hoping that someone could give me the year it was made based on the badge number.

It's safe to say that your snare dates to 1993 or after as that's when Ludwig switched to the Black Galaxy finish on the Acrolite.

You can find out more about the Acrolite by going here, which is a previous post currently located near the top of page two here in the Ludwig-Slingerland-Gretsch topics...............

I've got an old 80's Acrolite, it's awesome if you tune it low!

p.s. i agree with other dude who mentioned low tunings. i tune low with a dead ringer. pat wilson from weezer once told me it "sounded like the white album."
