Hi, I used to take lessons but I really only got as far as stuff like funk and some basic rock and jazz, etc. I am very into grindcore such as exhumed and pig destroyer, cannibal corpse napalm death etc. and that's the stuff I wanna play. does anyone know what styles that is, like is it thrash? heavy? or what? I don't think grindcore is it's own style maybe it is. Also, does anyone have any tips on learning it? Thanx alot for any help.

oh man, this is awesome. i absolutely love grind and death metal and everything in between. there are a few members here that do as well.

as for wanting to get into "grindcore"....i'd say just listen to all the bands you're really into and try to incorporate small parts into your style now. depending on what type of music you're looking to play, i'd say maybe work on blast beats and your doubles alot........like ALOT ALOT. ahah.

instead of learning any traditional style of playing.....everything i was taught was based off death metal....so it's all ive known from the start. luckily for you, you'll have your previous background before entering the wonderful world of grind. ahah

here is a link to a few songs from my band...i guess we're Grind/Death metal.

Ah want some more modern grind (this is what I love in life)

www.ed-gein.com
www.myspace.com/robinson
www.myspace.com/thecyanideslumber (i drummed for these guys once, not me on the recordings though)

Class grind your taste?

Anal *evil red-headed step child*
Napalm Death
Leng Tsch'e

Want some death metal do ya?

Cannibal Corpse
Hate Eternal
Circle Of Dead Children

And finally Meloidc Death metal

Vornagar
Arsis

------------

Listen up and get a feel for what there playing, grindcore isn't about speed, it can be but mostly it's not. Gotta have fast hands though. Start working on snare drumming and your feet. Lot of energy and stamina is required for this. Take it slow, but dont expect that your gonna be good any time soon. It takes a while to develope the ability to play grind.

I never said Meshuggah was grindcore but Cryptopsy is. Atleast that's what they're labeled here.

Open ya hats up soooo w i d e they make ya ears bleed and loosen the snares for a constant buzz too. Take the pillow outta ya bass drum and then pour some acid on ya crotch. 3 out of the 4 suggestions should do the trick...

Sorry to kinda ruin the niceness of the thread, but I am a metal head, but cant stand grindcore, it just seems to senseless, in my opinion, I love heavy, but vocals drive me nuts, its just rage without direction in my opinion.

I jsut thought I'd let that out.

as far as grindcore drumming goes, you're on the right track
first of all...i have to say it
WITTE WITTE WITTE WITTE
PLEASE listen to discordance axis
some of the best grindcore drumming of all time, and all done with a single pedal(which is the MAIN reason i don't use double)

jesse from ed gein is a great drummer...a bit sloppy live..but he writes very very well. they're more like..sludgy/grind,honestly. sorta like engineer meets powerviolence bands like dropdead.

don't listen to robinson,jesus god.

pig destroyer, napalm death..of course, classics. the drumming on terrifyer in particular...so good.

listen to as much death metal as possible..and then just put a harsh tone on it,and blast as much as possible.

then you got grindcore

Dark Funeral, Immortal, Emperor (anthems to welkin at dusk in particular), ...those are some good bands to listen to for good blast beats, (i know their not death or grindcore but they use alot of blast beats) Wintersun's drummer is very creative with his blast blasts, very quick.

I play in a black/death metal band and my guys usually play a single riff, just one riff repeated over and over and ill do blast beats the whole time, and keep it going as long as you can, and when you start to slack, youll know it because youll be out of time.

It always helped me to stay in time and helped my stamina, now it gets to the point where they cant keep their fingers going as long as my blast beats Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Keep it metal dude \m/.....

PS: explore all drumming styles from every genre of metal... The possibilities are endless Hope this helps!

Our songs arent one single riff the whole, we do this as an exercise, i should have been specific.
