I play a crossover thing between two drums when I'm out of ideas, usualy between floor tom and snare.

On the floor tom and snare it would be something like this

F S S F S S F F S F F S S F S S

its all 16th notes, alternating singles.

F is floor tom, S is snare if you didn't catch that btw.

Any fill that grooves and pours the music into its next state of being like a river over a waterfall.

I love doing the ol' DIO triplet feel fills but i try to expand on it a little.

s = snare
ss = snare flam
t = small tom
f = floor tom
b = bass

heres the standard DIO fill

ssb ttb ffb ssb ttb ffb - and so on... example >>> http://www.esnips.com/doc/db3a6234-9741-4db9-98ef-7ce405a78d20/dio[1]

here's my one...

ssb ttb ssb ffb ssb ftb ss example >>> http://www.esnips.com/doc/8c9cfa16-a205-4941-8bc5-0b013fcae57b/toms[1]

Both of them together >>> http://www.esnips.com/doc/d08fa37e-f265-4dfb-bd3e-62bf522a2ccb/together[1]

the examples are only 120bmp, try them at 180, fantastic...
honesty it sounds great up to speed

Hi I purchased some real cool software where you can write the actual transcriptions then convert them to midi or wave format. Tabtrax is the name and its under $US30 ( http://2112design.com/ ). I have used freeware drum machines in the past ( http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/ ) to make individual rhythms then glued them together using a free application called wav glue - it's a tiny download. If you cant find wave glue (Freeware) then I will upload it to my esnips account. The good thing about esnips is that you can stream music on there, which is cool for the examples I just posted.

HEY DID YOU TRY THE FILL AT THE 160BMP + RANGE? IT'S PRETTY AWESOME EH?

I can't fill properly yet (I've literally had two months of good rudimental practise out of 2 1/2 years of drumming, and a month ago I was hit by a feckin' car putting me out of action till this week! ), but I do tend to use this pattern alot when jamming, I like it as a basis for ideas. I perform it between the drums, with the first accent and last two accented notes on the snare and the other accents are on toms and other tap strokes on the snare, but that's the basic one, I use the same accent pattern around the kit.

ooOooooOoOoOOOOO

I find a few beers helps me to relax and throw in more fills during a song. To many beers = too many unneeded fills though, beware Wink

LOL

it's true though. When I first sit with the guys I'm always very tight and 'by the book'. But once I've loosened up I start to have more fun with it and just throw crap in there. playing around on the toms at every opportunity.

I play better when people like my wife come watch us practice though too.
