Can you remove the I.T.S. mount from an Mapex drum? If I wanted to remove the mount and put the drum on a snare stand, can I remove it without an issue?

Thanks

It would require removing and reinstalling a couple of the lugs, but I don't see why that wouldn't work. Shouldn't be a problem.

Someone mentioned that the lugs are shorter in depth than the others to compensate for the mount and that they would need to be replaced. Do you know if that's true?

Hmm, I'm not sure about that, but I could look on my Saturn when I get home. Now that you mention it, that sounds likely. Otherwise, the tension rods would be splayed out too far on the lugs that hold the mounts.

The drum in question, is a 5.5x10 steel black panther that I have on order. It comes with a mounting bracket, but I want to use it on a normal snare stand, thus there's no need for the bracket.

I went to my local drum store today to check one out. To my surprise, the lugs are in fact the same size and when you hold the drum up, you can see that the lugs stand out about an 1/8" of an inch more than the ones that don't have the mount under them. The thickness of the mount is so slight, that it doesn't flex the tension rods to the point of having to have a smaller lug. It does in fact look like all you would have to do is remove the two lugs, remove the mounting bracket, and replace the lugs again, and all should be good to go. The mounting bracket has the same oval rubber gaskets under it as the normal lugs, as well.

That's interesting about that BP snare. I took a look at the mounted toms on my Saturn last night, and the lugs underneath the mounts are indeed shallower by about 1/8" than the other lugs. Maybe Mapex didn't feel that was necessary for the snare, or perhaps they didn't change the lugs because it's a snare drum, thinking that many people would want to remove the mount and put it on a stand.

Yes, the bass drum tom mount should be removable. This is the case for the Mapex Saturns, anyway.
