Hi,
I too am on the hunt for a Cajon. Seems like the Schlagwerk ones are very popular. I have found a used, handmade one in my local music shop and it sounded a million times better than the Meinl ones they had. Only problem is that the person who made it painted the whole thing black! What a shame!
Can anyone give me any advice about what to look out for when buying one? the used one looks a bit beaten up, but is that a bad thing? do they wear out with age or improve?
Any help much appreciated! Please email any advice to me if u can! my email is: wiggy_@innocent.com
Thanks! |

I wouldn't really say they "wear out". Depending on the wood, some older instruments may sound better then their new counterparts. I would be careful with purchasing an instrument that someone painted themselves. If they didn't do it correctly, it could affect the sound of the instrument, or end up pealing, etc which would make the instrument look bad.
Schlagwerk makes some really nice instruments. People have also been raving about the Big Butt Cajons by Paul S. Namkung. http://www.worlddrums.org/. _________________ http://www.steveweissmusic.com |
