Hi, Im Rory.
Im a young drummer, who got into drums by my uncle pete, who passed several years ago. He played drums in the english band 'Echo & The Bunnymen'. They were quite big in the early 80's.
He passed me on a ludwig snare which he claimed to be Ringo Starrs. He met him several times and this was supposedly how he got it.
Now, this drum looks exxxaaaaccttlllyyy like every pictire of ringo's snare.
The greyish marble effect etc. (Black Oyster)
There is a serial number, on a gold/bronze badge. 24849.
I dont know what this means.
Ive tried contacting ludwig, i cant find a number..
i want to know if it really is ringo's/
i know that if it is, which i believe so, then it is probably going to be pretty valuable.
any help would be great.
CHEERS!

Rory,
Without a picture of your uncle, Ringo & the drum it will be difficult to prove. Contacting Ludwig with the serial number may help if they kept any records the tied the invoice to the serial number.
My dad worked for Slingerland years ago and whenever their top stars (e.g. Krupa & Rich) received sets it wasn't through the normal channels. So there may not be a record. I have one of Buddy Rich's snares, but didn't get him to sign it. I was just a kid then and didn't think of the future value.
You might try and write Ringo to see if he remembers your uncle and the gift. He may well autograph it. Who knows?? Good Luck. |
