Hi,
I have recently gained a hi-hat ZBT 14" (my first kit and i realise its not great) however I really hate the sound. It's very tinny, it has a ring to it once it's been hit and the varying amounts of pressure on the foot pedal dont make much difference
Could someone help me in what i could do to make it sound better, I'm looking for a much more solid click.
Also, I am considering taking it back to exchange it for the ZBT plus hi-hat, or the ZBT plus rock hi-hat, are either of these noticeably better quality?
Regards,
LouisWu |

Ah! Another who hates their ZBT Hats! For the sound, you can expariment with adjusting the angle and tightness of the washers on the clutch. As well, expariment with your technique in playing it.
I'd definately say go exchange them for Zbt Plus or ZXT. They're worlds better, in my opinion.
Hope this helps! |

| Change brand!! Get Sabian or Paiste, they are brighter than Zildjian. |

DaveTAMA,
Thanks for catching where I didn't mention. There's more than just Zildjian in the entry level. Do check out the Sabian B8/B8pro's and Paiste 302/502/802's, but also check out the ZXT/ZBTpro lines and whatever else fits into your budget range. Also take a look at used equip, because you can get some good deals there too.
Play it before you buy it, find what sounds right for you, and good luck! |

| I played with ZBT for a while and I hated them, but I recently went and got New Beat Hi-Hats and I couldn't be any happier. |

| A $200 pair of new beats or for a little more the K/Z Dyno-Beat Combo will be the last HiHats you ever buy. Its worth the investment for quality hats. |

| I really like my Sabian Flat Hats. I compared them to the new beats when I bought them and found them to be a bit brighter than the new beats. (I was in fact replacing the new beats I HAD that were stolen!) But it's all up to what you like. Play as many different hats as you can and pick the ones you like. |

| I was out cymbol chopping yesterday and the three hi-hats I was looking at were the Zildjan dyno beat it had a cool sound but since it was heavy you lose alot of acients with the foot. I don't really like sabian but both of the others were. Sabian Fussion, their jazzy. They have a warm sound with no undertone at all, (undertone is that buzzing you don't like) but they were kind of dull. The sabian Flattops were livly and still had no undertone. The flattops would probly be the ones you'd like from what you've described but check out the others too. |

| If you have the money definatley go with the flats. I have B8's right now and i really don't like the sound of them, they're heavy and clangy. If you are gonna get the B8's thought try to get a back, that way you'll get a crash, maybe a ride and if you're lucky a free cymbal bag. |
