| The X7 kit isn't necessarily poplar. Its a progressive ply of many different woods. The kit is produced in the Basix factory in China. Basix also makes Gretsch Catalina kits, SP drums, TKO, CP drums, pacific EZ EX and FS kits, as well as 80% off all kits that come out of china. |

That is what the website says, all poplar, and I doubt they'd lie on there.... so I'd go with that. I haven't played the X7s but PDP supposedly makes some good drums for the money. I hope you enjoy your kit when it arrives. _________________ AeonScape MySpace Music

| I was going to get the X7 but everyone talked bad about poplar shells. and they are 100% poplar. I called the company. So I decided to go to the FS series which are 100% birch. |

I've got this kit in the orange sparkle wrap....it very well might be the best kit I've ever heard in the 600 - 1500 price range. This thing imo plays nearly as good as any DW on the high end.
I put some Remo Pinstripes on the batters of all the toms (8, 10, 12, 14, 16 if you're not informed about their sizes already that is....) in order to control the slight metallic overtone of the poplar shells....they sing now. And I haven't even conjured up enough money to replace all my res's yet.
So god only knows how good it will be when I get around to that.
The bassdrum sounds like the perfect mixture of a cannon-like boom, and sharp end attack (similar to that of birch).
Great set for anything of the experimental nature....or if you're a metalhead...i HIGHLY recommend these.
Oh yeah, it also tunes very easily for an intermediate kit in its price range. |

| I own the orange x7's sparkle. They are poplar, made in China and sound amazing. Not just because of the low price/ quantity ratio. They are just great sounding drums, especially when you get better heads on them. Don't listen to drum snobs tell you not to buy them. |
