I guess I am back in the Saddle again.

Last year after 20 years of not playing (and 16 without a set), the old band got back together for a party and one set. It was fun. Played on our base players son's set.

A year later and we have officially started back up. Now I need to get my own set. I can no longer use our base players son's set, and I cannot continue to use the electronic drum set I purchased for church (In a Christian band too now).

Just here to say hello and hopefully learn some things. Like what is a good set and what shells I should try to get.

Welcome. About a year ago I started up again after about 20 years too. It's been quite fun. You'll find lots of good info here. Use the search tool to find posts about specific topics. There's lots of threads about what kind of kit to buy and which ones are good or not. If there are some specific kits you're considering, search for the name and you'll likely find plenty of discussion about it and comparing it to other similar models. I did the same thing and bought a Mapex M Birch kit, and love it. Good luck.

Ok so I poked around a bit and found that you have already learned your way around here. I wasn't paying much attention to your post date so I guess you didn't need my advice. Did you end up buying one of those used kits you were considering?

This is what I ended up purchasing:

Only difference is that I have 2 crash and 1 ride (Zildjian Custom K). I thought $1200 was worth it.

I want to add a Splash. I think that is the only thing I am missing. What is a best way to do that? Get a clamp and add to one of the cymbal stands or clamp to one of the toms? What is the best way to do that?

Thanks!

The Gibraltar Grabber Cymbal Arm is probably the most popular way to do that. They're about $30, and if you look carefully you can find one that includes a cymbal stacker for free.
