I have a set of Gretsch Maple Catalina Drums. The toms sound really thin. Any suggestions?

skins that came with the set. Do I have to upgrade and if so, what do you recommend. Set was fairly expensive and everything else sounds great. It is just the small tom that stinks!

A couple things might be going on with your kit. First look in to Remo Emperor or Evans G2 heads for your kit, I believe your kit is equipped stock with Evans single ply G1’s. These heads are a two ply and do a great job of adding a nice full tone to the drum. Second don’t tune the 10 inch drum too high. You will pull it out of its range and it will not sound good at all. Check it out. I play the Catalina Birch kit and love it. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Maples. _________________ Now playing Slingerland, Gretsch, & Sonor Drums

id suggest remo pinstripes myself, i have the gretsch catalina ash kit, and the pinstripes sound outstanding on them! you can get a head pack from either evans or remo and save some dough, i bought the head pack for my kit, which included the 10,12,14 Pinstripes, and also a Powerstroke 3 snare head, for like 45 bucks if i remember corectly. and my drums sound great.

That’s great to hear. It’s always great knowing you like what you are hearing from your drums. It just make you play better. _________________ Now playing Slingerland, Gretsch, & Sonor Drums
