Tom heads

I've never really messed with different tom heads. I have a Yamaha YD series drum set, and I've been flirting with the idea of getting a 2 ply oil filled drum head, but have never heard how they sound. Who's got an opinion on this? What's the difference in sound and quality?

If you want absolutely zero ring and a nice thud, that's what they're designed for.

What about on rolls? With no ring wouldn't it make it harder to do a nice sounding roll on?

I would have to agree. If I remember correctly, an Evans representative popped his head onto this forum and posted both some information and sounds links for the hydraulics. Take a peak through the definitive heads thread in the Dog House.
