I was browsing and came across this, and was wondering if it is a budget kit, or a hi-end kit. It is only £449.00 (UK obviously), and am wondering if it would suit me as a step-up from my no-name starter kit, as a regular gigging kit?

Thanks

It is an intermediate kit, but from what I understand an older one (if I remember correctly Export Selects were replaced with E_X kind of names). Will it meet your needs: yes, definitely. Is it worth the price: I'm not as convinced given the possible age, exchange rates and the like.

Clam

Being another UK person, i'd REALLY recommend you look towards Mapex.

I started out with the Export EX, and it was around that price.
The Export is a Budget kit, not intermediate.

With an ever so slight step up in price, you could get an M-Birch or some Pro-M's which truly are intermediate (some regard Pro-M's as near pro)

You wont get as much for your money with Pearl drumwise....

However... Pearl hardware is awesome.

Pearl are a fantastic drum company, but charge inflated prices for the name nowdays.

So, how does Mapex hardware compare to Pearl hardware?

Mapex hardware is pretty sturdy, but not so as the Pearl.

I actually still use most of my Pearl Export hardware with my Mapex Saturns as it wasn't worth upgrading most of.

The bass drum pedal you wouldn't notice any difference as both are single chain.

I'd give the export hardware an 8 where as the Mapex probably a 7.

Its not as chunky but still certainly does a good job...

One thing to mention - The Mapex bass drum mounts are much better than the Pearl, much more adjustable.
