I would like to change the colour and add some stuff to my bass drum reso head, but a custom head or even just a plain new one seems expensive.
Has anyone tried any type of paint thats cheap and i can do myself. It can't affect the sound to much i would rather sound cool than look it.

i've never painted it, but i have stickers on it and i get the sound i want. i can't think of any light paint that would stay on that kinda material...but you can prolly still get the sound you want with a thick paint.

What kind of paint do you think would be most effective?

I'd like to do the same kind of thing with my reso head

I've taken Sharpies to coated kick resos before. Worked out nicely of course, no worries (sure, not quite the same as painting).

If you're going to paint something on a reso, would you do it on (carefully) or off the shell? That is, if you paint it first and then stretch the skin a bit (if at all) when you tune the kick, will the paint start to crack?

if you paint, paint with the head on the drum, the paint is probly gonna crack if it stretches.

if i wanted art on my bass drum head, i would use ink. i think paint will crack just from the head moving back and forwards. i think you can buy straight up ink, but i dont know where.
