E-Drum amp and monitor options/suggestions

So, I've read as much as I can find and am still very confused. To actually get sound out of my drums what do I need? Can I just use my guitar amps (everything from big and small solid and tube amps) do I need to buy some system just for electrronic drums (like a drum amp or those monitoring systems that are really pricey) or could I even just hook up some stereo speakers. I'm just trying to figure out if I'm gonna need to spend a crap load of cash on a drum amp or not. thanks.

Basically, any keyboard amp (like the Roland KC series) will do the trick. Take a look at keyboard amps on Musiciansfriend (or similar site) and compare them.

well can I just hook up a stereo system cause I have these crazy speakers with awesome bass. Just are there any alternatives to buying a keyboard, drum, or bass amp? Because I really don't want to fork out more money than I already am. And exactly how crappy will my guitar amps sound?

Guitar amps, unless really, really good ones, won't have enough bass end to support drums. You're stereo system should be fine, for just playing at home, but I wouldn't use it for playing out.

k cool. so should any stereo speaker hookup be okay? Will they be able to be hooked up to my DTXplorer? Do I need an adapter or will just a regular chord that comes with it work? Because I always thought that it was that fat odd shaped instrument cable like you use for guitar cause thats how I thought you used headphones?

I hooked my pintech kit (e-jam) up to a keyboard amp and a bass amp in the other channel with very impressive results. Both amps were just 60w, that's all I need for band practise and small clubs.
