Ive been playing drums for around 4 years but I just started playing because i quit for about a year. My joints all of a sudden hurt really badly but im starting to think if its my drum sticks. My drum sticks are really worn down and ive been playing a lot for a solid 2 weeks or a month and this hasnt happened until recently (past couple of days) does this happen when your sticks start losing there pop or am i just not quite used to playing yet?

A few issues. Part of it MAY be your sticks, but I'm thinking it's more just OVERUSE of your joints that you weren't prepared for. Over in the Technique section there is a health and wellness sticky with some information on stretches. Check that out. Give your joints a few days rest and stretch them thoroughly (and appropriately). If, when you play again, you still have joint pain, see a doctor.

It's likely you just overused and may have overstretched a tendon which is causing the pain. Stretching is very important as you can hurt yourself playing 'cold'

Yep...I've been out the loop for some time;just getting back in to it, I've spent the last 2 weeks convalescing a neck injury because of playing cold.

WARM UP!

Cod liver oil is really good for the joints. Try some and you'll notice a difference.
