3 rack toms and one floor?
or 2 rack and 2 floor?
At church we have a Pearl Export with 2 rack and 2 floor. It's alright, but a bit hard to reach the last one, would probly prefer another tom on the rack instead... |

My Gretsch & Sonor kits are both 3 up & 1 down. They have a very comfortable feel in that configuration. _________________ Now playing Slingerland, Gretsch, & Sonor Drums

When I get my six piece, it'll be 2 up 2 down. _________________ "One day I feel I'm on top of the world

Depends on personal preference and how much space you have.
I prefer 3 up 1 down, and that's how I'm expanding.
When I go for another addition however.... 4 up 1 down? 3 up 2 down?
I've played both and it's tough to choose between. |

| i would go for the 2 up 1 down...becuase it just feels better too since im short and i play like lets say a 5 piece drum with 1 tom in rack and 2 on the floor it just seems that im faster like that |

I'd do three up one down.
I don't play a 6 anymore, but that's what I did. _________________ A groove is a terrible thing to waste! |

| meh, i have a 8 piece(7 now i have a snare messed up) and i have 4 rack, one is like a middle from a rack (its on the rack but like a floor) and have one floor. if/when i get a 14' tom it wil be a floor and probably be on my left side of me by the highhat for crossovers so i dont have to reach so far back, if i get a 18 tho i will have 2 flors next to each other |

| I'm using five toms now (3 rack/2 floor), but if I had to go with four, I would probably prefer 3 rack and one floor. It's a tough call, though. |

I'm more and more liking two down.
1, 2, or 3 up is ok but I like my Ride where the 3rd tom should be so 2 up /2down would work, too. _________________ Bish

Depends on your sizes. I'm not a fan of the 13" tom, so for a four tom set up, it might be 8", 10", 12", 14" which would be 3 up 1 down, or - more likely - it would be 10", 12", 14", 16", which would be 2 up 2 down. I'm inclined to think the second setup is slightly more versatile. But things would be different if you were talking about the third drum being a 13" instead of 14".
I sit pretty far back from my kit so a second floor tom is well within reach. _________________ If you don't like it, you can just *Golly Gee* off! - Keith Moon's last words

| Currently playing 3 up and 1 down in fusion sizes, and it really works for me. You should try it first and choose which works for you! |
