Hey everyone I'm thinking bout upgrading my cymbals and I'm thinking bout getting 14" Sabian Vault hi-hats and also a Zildjian 16" Z custom crash.
What do you guys think about mixing brands?

I know it's stupid but I know some people prefer all the same brands in there config.

Cheers

strictly personal preference. i think it's more about the appearance of the kit, it just looks better if all the cymbals match. but get the ones that you think sound best, don't worry about the brand

Be sure to let us know what you think about the cymbals when you get them.

As for mixing cymbal brands, my setup consists of three different brands: Zildjian, Paiste, and Saluda. It's going to be easier to find cymbals that blend well within the same company, and some people think it looks nicer, but I'm all about variety in my setup. I have a 16" medium-thin Zildjian A Custom crash (bright and glassy with fairly quick decay) that sounds completely different from my medium-thin 17" Saluda Ion V crash (dry and dark with a really short decay) which sounds completely different from my Paiste 18" Signature power crash (huge complex sound with long decay).

Yeah I will let you guys know what I think when they get here Smile
I've never had any high end cymbals really. My old set up was a mix of a couple of brands but they didn't really give me a nice sound together. I had:
Zildjian 18" ZHT fast crash
Paiste 14" alpha crash
Zildjian 14" ZXT hats
Paiste 12" 502 splash
Sabian 8" pro sonix splash
Sabian 20" solar ride (AWFUL)

I hated these cymbals apart from the two splashes.
So it will be good to have some good sounding cymbals for once Smile.

I'm thinking about getting a AAX 16" dark crash but not sure how it will work with the rest of my kit.

I'll post some pics of my kit when i've got everything for it Smile

cheers guys

I have a mixed bag of cymbals Zildjian, Sabian, Meinl, Paiste, Wuhan, Agazarian and a cheapie called Han chi. This is of course a personal choice but I like to bring different stuff to the table. Besides what I have I'm looking to add a Dream ride a UFIP ride and perhaps something from Bosphorus. I love variety.
