well, Blast beat is a drum beat made with rapid alternating or coinciding strokes on the snare and hi-hat or cymbal. The snare drum and hi-hat/cymbal forms the focus of such a beat, with bass drum often played beneath the snare to create a 'wall of sound'. The hi-hat or a ride cymbal is often played simultaneously with the bass drum or with the snare drum; however, crash cymbal or china cymbals can often be featured as well, for an even heavier, "wall of sound" effect. Its usually used in heavy metal. Listen to some slipknot songs and you should here some blast beats

Oh ok, so its like:

bass+crash then snare+hihat repeat? But really fast?

And you can mess around with different combos and stuff right?

Thanks for replying man.

x = hit, - = rest

Traditional Blast Beat
H;x-x-x-x-
S;-x-x-x-x
B;x-x-x-x-

Inverted Blast Beat
H;x-x-x-x-
S;x-x-x-x-
B;-x-x-x-x

Also I think the constant double bass patterns are considered blast beats but I'm not sure

H;x-x-x-x-
S;--x---x-
B;xxxxxxx

Literally every metal band from after 1990 has featured blast beats in some/all of their songs, the tempos are ridiculously fast (upwards of 160 bpm, up to around 240) so a lot of time is put into developing speed

Or, there is the gravity blast, which derives from the single-handed roll method. Which is where you double the amount of snare strokes, using the snare drum rim as a pivot point. Just youtube single-handed roll, and you'll find a tutorial pretty quickly.

blast beat is simply just a kick and then a snare & hihat together

like was said ealrlier there are different ways of doing it, the traditional, the inverted and the one with double bass...

in my opinion I hate how this sound lol, blast beats just sound like "too much" but to each, his own, good luck

to make it simple, first you play a B and then a HH and S together and increase in speed overtime.
