for me personally, i was in a sorta same situation, and for my i worked with my hands first( and thanks to the open hand drumming topic, i have been playing open hands since then and i do like it), but for blast beats, i cant seem to get it smooth enough for me so i do use the crossed hands and find it easier for me personally.
so i would
work with
hands first
cross hands
then add feet, whether its double bass or single, its best to work on both, even though you may not be using one right now, its alot easier to learn now then to have to go back later and learn again
then fills and others.

blasting i dont believe is hard, so im sure youll have it down in no time
