So... after reading about them at various places, I finally got myself some Saluda cymbals. A lot of people like them yet I've also read some bads reviews, so I was slightly hesitant. I traded in some gear worth a chunk of change for these, but as of right now, I'm very happy.
I got:
6" Expressions bell - I've honestly never played a bell before but it seemed very.. "musical" to me. It's fairly high pitched, with it being 6 inches, but it has a nice ring to it that just sounds, well... musical.
15" China Bell - Haven't really messed around with this yet. It's um... huge
18" Voodoo Brilliant China - it's trashy, like what a china should be, yet feels a bit more "refined" than the Wuhans I've played. It doesn't seem to be all over the place and has a bit quicker of a decay. I like it.
18" Ion V crash - dark and full. I asked for a medium-thin crash and this feels a bit heavier than my Zildjian A Custom medium-thin yet not as heavy as a medium Sabian HH that I had. As I said, it's nice and dark, but both responds well and projects well, somethings that I didn't like about my Sabian HH.
10" Ion V splash - need to play with this somemore, but sounded rather trashy to me.. almost like a mini-china, a quick trash-splash with a very quick decay.
In about a month or so, I'll be getting some recording gear, so hopefully I can post up some sound files. Also, I will take some pictures shortly. The "brilliant" finish on the china is very cool looking. The Ion Vs look dirty, like someone dug them up out of the ground, lol. I'm not sure what the difference is between these and the regular Ions, but from the pictures they have on the website, these have a dirtier look than the Ions. _________________ AeonScape MySpace Music

Update-
I e-mailed Jamie, the POC for Saluda Cymbals and found out the difference between the Ions and the Ion Vs: Ions are more trashy and dry while the Ions Vs are supposed to be smoother and warmer. He said the cymbals that were sent to me were freshly made and so after a few weeks, and the splash being "broken in", it should mellow out and loose what trash it has. I'm kind of glad of that, cuz I didn't really want any trashiness in my splash.
Interesting note about the Ion Vs: They're not being sold through the online store. They want the cymbals to be more "exclusive" and only offer them through trades, with people not being able to specifically request them, and will offer some up to dealers. I definitely like them... and I'm sure I'll like them more after a few weeks for them to be able to break in.
Tonight I'll get up them pictures _________________ AeonScape MySpace Music

Sorry about the one more bump, but I've got a few pictures.
See, looks like it was dug up from the ground, doesn't it?
I love this finish:
You can see the splash here as well as the bells. The splash looks even "dirtier" than the crash.
Now, I just need my recording gear to do some recording... _________________ AeonScape MySpace Music

Those are cool looking cymbals my friend. Personally, I like the 'earthy' look. _________________ Mapex Pro-M 5 piece Fusion

| Congrats on your purchase. They look pretty sweet. With that shape, the china looks exactly like a Wuhan, but you say they sound different? |

It is shaped quite like a Wuhan. The reflections of the picture make it seem a bit more "bumpy" than it really is. The cymbal is smoother/flatter than a Wuhan and a bit shinier. I haven't played an 18" Wuhan, so it's hard to directly compare. I had a 22" Wuhan and this is both obviously a tad bit higher pitched but also a bit clearer. The trash is there but I think the pish and pash sound is more clearer and less consumed by congy trashiness. _________________ AeonScape MySpace Music

| Glad to hear you like your saludas. I have read so much about that particualr brand. Everthing from there great to they suck. But I think I'm inching towards atleast trying one. Their very fairly priced so it's not like i'm laying out a ton of cash. |

Yeah, they are fairly priced... so I thought why not? I'm actually looking at unloading the Ion Vs. They're great cymbals but just not what I want. They've got a great clear dark sound with a short decay and what I really need are some full/power crashes. I'm looking at getting a 20" Earthworks power crash. _________________ AeonScape MySpace Music

I always wanted to try them out but they dont really sell at all in england, and the postage costs are stupid. I did have a nice chat with..somebody who emailed me back about getting hold of some, though. They sound good, heard a few demo;s. _________________ n00bs are dangerous in large numbers.
