I cracked it, but I use proper technique (I usually check myself regularly) and none of my other cymbals have cracked that I've used proper technique on, so what do you think? I bought it used and my Hi-hats (paiste alpha power hats) used and I've had those for maybe a little over a year and they're doing great and I've only had my Wuhan china for maybe 6 months. My ride is used and it's an older Zildjian A rock ride (80's 90's??), so I'm trying to figure out why my china cracked. My thought right now is that it was abused by the previous owner, but what do you guys think? Thanks.

Wuhans are more fragile than the average cymbal, it seems. I doubt there's anything wrong with your technique or where and how you strike the cymbal; it's just the cymbal itself that's the problem.

What I'd do is to get another Wuhan (given how cheap they are), but also get an Aquarian cymbal spring--the yellow one. I've used that on my china pretty much since I got the china, and good technique or just outright abuse, letting that energy transfer to the spring has helped the life thus far.

^^^what he said. it's not that Wuhans are flimsy or low quality, its more that they're a really weird shape, and have that little protruding bell which keeps them from moving as freely as a conventional cymbal. go get a new one with a cymbal spring, and you should get a long, productive life out of your cymbal.

the truth with alot of chinas, is they crack, one because its not rotating on the bell/ too tight, and years of beating will wear it down because its a trash can lid. i dont know anything about a cymbal spring so i cant help you there, but alot of chinas do crack, and alot of them dont sound too much different. even like the zildjian orientails break so probably the best thing to do is thank yourself for not spending too much money and get a new one. and i guess a cymbal spring cant hurt, i dont know wht it is but try it

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Aquarian-Cymbal-Spring?sku=449400

you remove the felt pads and wingnut from your cymbal stand. the bottom part of the spring (black plastic, with the screw) sits right on the threaded part of the stand, and gets tightened down. the top (colored stiff foam) unscrews, and you place your cymbal on just like a normal stand, and tighten the top all the way down on the cymbal. you may be saying... "hey why would you tighten it all the way down? that would normally damage a cymbal!" but when its firmly attached to the cymbal spring, it allows your cymbal to oscillate as far as it likes in any direction without being hampered by its shape or size.

I gotta say go with the cymbal springs. I use them and they're great. Plus you prolly don't know how long the previous owner had it, or if he abused it. A new Wuhan and CS and your back in buisness.

I went thru 3 wuhans in the span of 2 years, even with Cymbal springs.

Love the way they sound, their cost offsets the fact that they are fragle. I used one till it was pretty much in the shape of the batman signal and it still sounded intresting as hell.

China cymbals are by design quite thin, but Wuhans are especially so. It's the main reason they sound so trashy and interesting. However, it makes them fragile. Cymbal springs are a good idea, but sometimes they just crack no matter how good your technique is. The good news is that $40-50 gets you a new 18 inch Wuhan. Problem solved.

Also Wuhan has terrible consistency. Some have pits etc. Best to check em out in store if you can.

there not bad, its just every one sounds different so if you want an 18, go to the music store and ask them to see all of them, and listen to all of them and pick the one you like
