I am considering going back to using a drum rack instead of stands. I would like to hear your advice on the most stable rack available. I am leaning towards one of the square tube models just because my thoughts are that there would be no clamp slipping problems. I am a little worried about the lack of flexibility when it comes to finding the just right location for tom position etc on the square tube models versus a round tube Gibralter style rack. I had a Gibralter rack 10 years ago and the clamps would not hold the drums in position for very long at all without falling on the bass drum. Are the Gibralter clamps better/more sturdy now?
I am also considering buying an extra front bar for when I go back and forth between single or double bass set ups?
If you wanted to appear old school with the cage stye rack - cymbal stands hanging down - what model would you pick.
1. what is the best rack?
2. most flexible - most set up options rack? easiest to put together without another members assistance?
3. do the round tube Gibralter racks have more sturdy clamps that hold their position even under a good pounding these days?
4. Which one is the best of only the square tube types? Pearl Icon?
5. I like the fact that the Pearl DR rack does not have feet/takes up less floor space. Is it still sturdy?

Most of my hardware is the heaviest DW type.
Thanks,
Garry

The two that i would go between would definatly be Gibralter, and Pearl.

circular tubing doesnt usually slip and gives you different angles for the cymbals, but i like having the square tubing cause i know its not going anywhere.
gibralters got the knew rack design that you can like custom make for your kit, so it can go around all you need too, and could have the cymbal hanging setup.

Prsrl icon is what alot of people use, its a bit pricey, and the major difference from the DR 80 is the fact that the icons bars can go higher or lower the dr 80 does not

the DR-80(which is what i have) doesnt have any feet, so you can mount in more places, and bend into weird things if needed, cause they dont have long feet. As long as you have everything screwed in, it is really sturdy. Also when it ships to you house and you get the box, it is really easy to setup and had mine ready in 30 minutes. Last, with the whole i plan on buying another side thing, you can buy a fourth side to it for an extra $40 bucks
