so, i was jamming with my band at a random gig at my school

im now into using my metronome all the time, and its really easy for me to keep the beat. the problem is, is that i need a it fairlyloud even with the extreme isolation headphones on. at the end of the night, i really couldent hear anything at all.

so i was just wondering if there's any way i can isolate my ears next to 100% form allllll sounds. cause then i could mix the guitars and my drums into my ears without i having to be to loud.

i dont really think theres anything that can take out the sounds of drums completely, and if you did, that could be really bad cause drums are like the loudest thing in the band, so you would have no clue whats going on in the song, exept for the metronome.
the closes thing i have done, is the vic firth isolation headphones, and those little tan Hereos ear plugs, which kills alot of it but not too much, but it takes out some of the sound coming through the headphones(like a music track, or metronome pluged into it

Whenever i practice I use a pair of shotgun hearing protectors (the big ones) and then have in ear headphones on over that. It seems to do that trick.

I used to do the in-ear thing with isolation headphones over it but my problem (besides that it was uncomfortable) is that I move around a lot and the in-ear phones would loosen up.

I now use the vic firth isolation headphones and can hear the click perfectly now without anything coming loose from my ears.

maybe get new headphones? i've tried a few higher end in-ear isolation models (i believe they were Sennheiser) owned by a friend, and there really is a drastic difference between those and your run of the mill "sound isolation" headphones you see kickin around.

or you could always go with plain jane in-ear 'phones, and some gun mufflers over the top. definitely not pretty, but it works.

also, most metronomes have a blinking light or some other visual cue to indicate the beat, in addition to beeping. another solution would be to completely ditch the in ear click, or leave it as is where you can't always hear it and just glance over at the metronome every now and then to be sure you're still with the beat.
