1. spray paint isnt the worst look on tension rods(just tried it yesterday with an extra rod i had and looks sweet, put dont put it on paper towel. but i said it looks sweet so i dont know how itd perform)
2.an easy way to make a sizzle ride or crash it to take some of the black electrical tape, stick a penny on it evenly and place it on the ride nd instantly it will sizzle, placement is up to you i have mine a inch and a half away from the bell(16. in crash) |

| #2 does work and I do this when necessary. # 1, however, I wouldn't recommend. |

i find #2 better than drilling a hole in my cymbal cause if i wanna switch to a normal crap or sizzle another cymbal you can take it off easy

good stuff man. I'm not too sure about the painted rods as the paint will most likely chip off after some playing. It's a very cheap alternative to powdercoating or anodizing though, thats for sure.
As for the sizzzzzle cymbal idea, I like it! I'll have to try that. I had used a smaller, cracked 16" crash over a 20" crash to get a good little sizzle to it as well. _________________ Remember, no one is listening until you fart. |

The other "sizzling" idea is to take a basic necklace chain (like that that the military uses for dog tags) and tie/mount it to the bell (via the stand) so that it merely rests on the cymbal. Also cheap and easily removable. _________________ "One day I feel I'm on top of the world

I would strongly advise against number (1), and would adjust number (2) to use medical tape, hockey tape, or perhaps gaffers tape rather than electrical. Those three won't live a tacky, sticky residue on the cymbal when you're done, whereas electrical tape will take a while to get off.
As for number 1, the second you turn that into the lug, the paint will start stripping out leaving the flakes in the lug which makes tuning more difficult. Over time crossthreading is likely to occur because it'll be hard to differentiate between the normal difficulty and the crossthread. "Now, wait just a minute," you might say. "What about lubing the rod?" Not a bad idea, but unless you've got nylon washers, even with the difficult turning and increased friction compared to normal, the rod will slowly turn itself out.
In other words, don't change the friction on something that has to move unless it was already moving improperly. _________________ So with that title, do I Godwin every thread now?

if your putting your hardware on your walls tho, it can be spray painted black for decor
actually black tape doesnt leave residue, because not much of it is touching the cmbal because of the penny, and if your worried, you ould put the tape against your shirt to get lint on it so it wont leave any
my idea was trying to be cheap, most if not all households have some sort of electrical tape |

This is good, I've seen it used many times. Actually I like the sound of the improv ones better than the custom sizzlers. _________________ A groove is a terrible thing to waste! |

back from the dead
easier way to get speed for blasting or whatever,
most people for blasting use fingers(thats why i mentioned it) and instead of using the fingers in unicin (middle ring and finger) i switch off the middle and ring(if you can wiggle them seperatly then you can do this) and after some practice for like a day, you can get really fast.
i was going to throw in the middle finger to get even more speed, but at like that speed is pretty ridiculous and i dont see too many people using it, so just stick with the two and throw the pinky in unicin with one or both fingers |
