ok, i need to get new beaters cause my double pedal came with the huge pancake beaters and i was wondering what one is my best pick... i hear the tama cb90`s were good and lightweight... and you can do fast double pedal, and i was looking at the pearl tehy have felt and rubber (i think) on them... and the dw 5000 are a bit on the heavy side... i play like hardcore/metal or hardcore indie... and i was wondering what one will be the best for both ?

really depends on what sound and feel you like. felt beaters tend to have a softer sound, and softer rebound. plastic beaters tend to have a harder, sharper sound and stiffer rebound. most beaters these days are reversible and have both surfaces. if you want to be able to change, then the Tama beaters are not for you... unless you want to buy more than one. also, while the Pearl quad beaters are interesting, i've never really been able to pinpoint which sides feel better, or why they feel that way. and finally, like you said, DW beaters are quite heavy.

chances are, the beaters you have are 100% fine for 100% of all genres of music and buying new ones is no different than flushing money down the toilet. unless you have issues with your pedal that you can place firmly on the beater, or have tried another brand and really, really like it then i wouldn't bother.

felt that i have used, is slower, with a little more boom(for like motley crue stuff where its nothing too fast, but gets a good sound when hit) and from my personal experiences the felt beat through my heads alot faster and id like to not waste 45$ as much as possible.
plastic side(or wood) is for more speed music like metal p-hardocre hardcore etc. and will bounce back quick and in my experience last longer then felt with heads.
the rounded off side is usually more bouncey, from the angle its hitting at and has more of a direct impact point, and does not choke the sound when you hit the bass and leave it on the head until the next hit.
the flat side isnt as bouncy, i like it for practicing because if you cn get good speed with that, then with the rounded side you can get really good speed. the flat side has more of a spread out attack to it, probably saving your drum heads life a little, but it can choke or kill the sound when you hit and place it on the head afterwards till the next hit.
tama beaters are close to that pancake look that you said you have and you cannot turn the side around and switch, but with the dw beaters you have two options, to choose from.
my suggestion is a quad beater, at least for now untill you find a side that you like then you can go out and buy a single sided one of the side you liked, if you dont want to keep the quad beaters on alot

hopefully some of that made since

most hardcore isnt too boomy, but just get the double or quad beater so you can switch, its probably the easiest, and i actually think the quaD beater is lighter then the dw one.
another nice one that works pretty good is the red hard wood beaters, they have a good overall sound
