Hey all, it's been a while since I've been here, so first off... Hi.
I am on vacation back home right now leaving in a fews days to go back and I want to bring my drumset with me, but I'm not sure of the best way to do that.
I'm thinking I could either buy some cases and try and bring them on the plane with me or ship them separately. I have a Mapex Pro-M set, 5 tom, sanre, 22" bass, 6 cymbols (hi-hat top &bot included), 6 stands, my throne and pedal. _________________ Here is a pic of my set |

Given the airline industry right now, I'd just ship them. Take off the heads, stack the shells inside each other (with some newspaper or foam in between), and go from there.
It's probably going to be more expensive, but the way things are going with charging for luggage and all, it might not be more expensive. Definitely safer, though. _________________ So with that title, do I Godwin every thread now?

ship them. the airlines don't give *Poop* if they ruin anything. my bro had a 3grand conn(?) trombone and the bell gott bent and it had to be sent in for repair. my former drum teacher just lost a buddy rich signature snare as well to the *Golly Gee* baggage *Poop* heads. _________________

if it's not a possibility to drive it yourself, which is understandable, then i'd have it shipped and not put on an airline. you can have packages insured very reasonably by UPS/FedEx, and they'll refund or replace your stuff fairly expediently if anything gets damaged or lost. insurance is obviously more expensive the more your stuff is worth, but it's worth it in the long run. just be sure not to lie about the true value of your packages, or else you'll be screwed if anything get damaged or lost. _________________

Is this to set up and play for your own purposes or is it for a show? If the latter you might look into just bringing your cymbals and carrying them on the plane with you and then a kit when you get where you're going. It'll certainly be cheaper for a short term thing. _________________ So with that title, do I Godwin every thread now?

Insurance is cheap through UPS.
up to 100$ on UPS.
$1.80 first $200.
90cents thereafter every $100.
about 50$ per $5000 _________________ "The more control you have of the instrument, the more confidence you will get and the more you will be able to express your ideas; Technique is only good if you can use it musically." -J.M. |
