The time has come......I have some extra funds to get the extra bedroom in my house converted into a home studio. I have some gear here and there, but I'd like to get some sort of bundle that would include most of the software I'll need. Here are a few in the price range I can afford right now, any suggestions or info would be splendid!

I'm also going to make my own electronic kit using Piezo transducers....I'll post more on that later though.

It's going to depend on how many mic inputs you need, exactly how much money you want to spend, and if you have a preference for certain recording software.

If you want to be able to record a band at once, the only option is the one with the PreSonus FireStudio (8 mic inputs). If you're not worried about doing too much recording at once, then I would go with the Tascam one. Your mic inputs should be enough to record your drums (since it has 4 mic inputs) and you get to work with Pro Tools.

I personally have the FireStudio and have found it easy to work with, how much I've gotten to mess with it. It comes with Cubase which is some nice recording software.

none the less, you cant go wrong with a xynex mixer going through a U-control, and setting that up into pro tools, or garage band, or even gold wave (free recording software) behringer makes great stuff for really cheap.

I've used Sonar with a Delta1010 card on my PC for years and love it. I used a friends dedicated system (can't remember the name) and didn't like it nearly as much.

Sorry guys, I should have given a bit more info.

Basically, everything must be silent at my house. Acoustic recording isn't really an option. Having that said...the drums will be electronic only. I initially planned on using my Alesis DM5, but I believe that only allows 1 line into the computer, which wouldn't permit me to adjust anything independently (kick, snare, toms...).

As for quality, nothing too extensive. Just enough to listen to, correct mistakes, and possibly post stuff online. Nothing major. I'm primarily setting this up so my guitarst and I can record our jam sessions and practices. I also want to attempt my own solo projects, but nothing more than guitar, drums, and potential bass.

I have a few PCs I can modify/build for the studio, so computer hardware shouldn't be a problem. I'll have the room prepped, with my custom-built electronic set, and the Alesis DM5 if needed. I'd like a set of monitors for quality play back, I have decent headphones.

Sorry if everything seems a bit vague, I'm somewhat of a newb when it comes to recording.
Thanks ya'll...

Err...the Mbox uses Pro Tool tyler. And since you're not worried about too many inputs, I think the Mbox would be the way to go.

As for your electronic drums, you should be able to independently adjust the various drums on your computer. Connect it via midi (or maybe it does midi through usb... I dunno... I don't have a DM5). midi captures each individual note with velocity information. You can tweak it as much as your heart desires.

Also, I believe you're a student...? If so, make sure to check out academic stores too. You can get really god savings that way, even on music gear.

Cant go wrong with the firestudio. I have the firepod and its a great input device, no complaints at all. It has MIDI controls 8 phantom powered inputs and presonus preamps. If I were you I would go for this one now just going by the old advice that when you buy technology its usually good to buy better and more than you need so it will last you longer. if you go with the firestudio you wont be disappointed.

i guess if you are going all electronic, then it is just a matter of how many ins and outs your drum module and your interface has. i've never worked with high end e-drums, but the cheesey ones only had 1 direct out. unless you go midi, which i know nothing about.

love,
eor
