I just bought a Pearl Chad Smith 5x14 metal shell snare drum. I don't even know who Chad Smith is but I played this drum next to many others in the drum shop and I found myself always coming back to this one. It just has the sound I was looking for. A nice crisp sounding drum. I also wanted a metal shell as I already have a wood shell snare. For $ 180.00 you can't really go wrong with this drum. Oh and the black finish on the shell looks great.

Congratulations. It looks like a very nice drum. I'm going to be looking for a metal shell snare before too long, myself, as I now have 2 maple snares.

One of my collegues here actually plays that very same snare. While I'm not a proponant of Pearl, I'd have to say that it's a pretty nice sounding snare!

Ah, thanks. I'll have to check them out. I don't listen to "mainstream" or what is considered "popular" music anymore. The radio stations here in Maine play crap for the most part.

Steve Weiss Music is selling the Chad Smith run for $149! After reading this post, I found their website. http://www.steveweissmusic.com

Has anyone ever dealt with them? I've heard the name mentioned a few times but have never ordered there.

Thanks

Well I've had the snare for a month now and I have to say I love it. It sounds fantastic.
