I know this sounds like a basic question. Lately, I have been having a ball trying new snare heads (Remo Ambassador, Aquarian with Dot Underneath, Evans with dot) and after a couple weeks, I take the head off, to try another one----but the head I removed is still fine, almost new.

Is there any disadvantage to doing this, will that head seat and play properly if I use it again in several months?

I ask this, because I know how much talk is given to heads seating properly, the glue breaking, heads breaking in, etc.

What do you think, can I reuse these 'hardly used' heads again and still make them sound great?

I turn to you for answers, DrumDogs!

they should be perfectly fine. the only thing is they'd be a little stretched out, which is good because then when you put them on again, you don't have to wait for it to stretch out

If they are nearly new, then I would expect that there wouldn't be any problem at all. Which heads have you liked the best of those you've tried, just out of curiosity?

When I first put the Remo Coated Ambassador head on my snare drum, I was very disappointed. As the weeks went by, it sounded better and better, and finally sounded so good, that I didn't want to change it, but I wanted to try others too.

I then tried the Aquarian Coated with the dot underneath. That head felt and looked better right out of the box, although it didn't sound great immediately. A day or two later though, that Aquarian head sounds GREAT, and may be my new head of choice!!

I put an Aquarian Studio X clear head on my floor tom, it it helping with some of the overtones. I had a Remo pinstripe on there before that rang too much, but seemed to be sounding better in its couple of months of age. I think I'd use either of them again at this point.

Sam Ash had all their heads easily accessible, and when I looked at them and felt them, tapped them and compared them, the Aquarian felt and sounded the best right out of the box (just holding it in your hand and tapping, listening to the quality of the unmounted head).

The Evans Coated with the dot underneath was very nice too, and at a great price at Guitar Center. This head was the only one they had accessible, the others are all hidden from view behind the counter. I bought the Coated Evans Dot underneath, but haven't tried it yet.

The Aquarian was greatest, and the Remo Coated Ambassador although fine, was rougher than I liked... the coating seemed "imperfect" for lack of a better work. The Aquarian and Evans looked and felt more uniform, no rough spots.

At this point, the Aquarian Texture-Coated with Dot Underneath is the best snare head I've ever used. I love their sound and durability.
