How can i eliminate Snare Rattle?
My Snare rattles quite bad , my bass player in the band kills the drum.
I have cheap heads(top and bottom) , would using quality heads Help?

Hey man!
Sympathetic vibration will happen no matter what you do. Fortunately, in many cases, the vibration isn't noticed because it's masked by other instruments. Still, there are methods for controling it.
First, I would agree that using decent heads will help. If you're using the stock heads that come with the drum, chances are that it won't sound half as good as if you toss some decent heads on.
Second, you can try muffling the drum a little, perhaps by taping a folded napkin to the side of the top head. That can help reduce the sympathetic vibrations.
Finally, you might want to even look into new snares. Personally, I recomend the non-spiral snares from Grover Percussion.
Just one question, though: Have you experimented with positioning the bass amp in relation to the location of the set? That could help. |

The bass amp is a monster, as my studio is 60 sq ft
does not make much difference.
Will change the snare heads i think also will try some damping.
I have never ever come across snare rattle on my own snares...
My other snare is a 1980 Premier and has never rattled.
There ya go....
Hmm am tempted to buy a new snare.
A friend of mine has a Chad Smith sig sounds good! (yamaha i think)
are they any good? _________________ Radio 1 D J !

Another drummer at my school has one. I personally think it sounds pretty good, and he loves it. |

| I believe the Chad Smith sig snare is made by Pearl. I've heard good things about them. |
