old school iron cobra jiggling?

hey, i just bought an older iron cobra off ebay (i think, it doesn't actually say "iron cobra" on it like they do now, but it has similar features) and it kinda jiggles when to depress it all the way. and it kinda "pops" when it reaches a certain point in motion, maybe around 110 degrees or so, if 90 degrees is straight up. i don't know how else to explain it.

is that normal? do i like that? is this the unreal feel? it's a single chain rolling glide if that makes a difference.

i don't know anything about hardware, so any enlightenment would be great. i found some bass pedal adjustment info on the pearl website, but nothing else; no info on the older cobras. Sad

i have the older iron cobras (i bought 'em in 94-95). i would make sure the footboard is not bottoming out on the wingnut that secures the pedal to the bass drum. you should be able to adjust the footboard angle, but you will need the tama drum key that should have come with the pedal, or find the right size allen key to fit. also, the bushings located at the bottom of the footboard (where your heel would be) wore out pretty quick on mine. i actually broke one of my footboards and had solid aluminum footboards made for them. since i put those on, i haven't had any problems. hope this helps......

well, it's not hitting the wingnut, but i'll investigate the bushings. what am i looking for? just wear? are these replaceable?

thanks for the hint about the footboard. i was wondering how to adjust it. do you know how i adjust the chain drive? it is currently in the middle position and i want to try out the other ones.

to explain that "pop" a little clearer: it feels ok, but after a certain point, it just kinda pops, like it were stuck or something. like something was restricting the motion and it becomes unobstructed at that point. should i disassemble it and poke around? is this safe to do? is there info on this sort of thing somewhere?

well, i think i found the problem. the cam gear thingy is chipped up and kinda missing a tooth. could that be it? let's hope those are cheap and easy to replace; it still works well enough, though. i'll just live with it for the time being.
