Ok. I have saved up enough money to buy a double bass pedal, but I have seen 2 different types - single chain/single spring and double chain/double spring pedals, and I don't know what the difference is, except the doubel chain and spring pedals are more expensive. Could anyone please tell me the difference?

I've personally found that more power from my foot is transmitted with the double than the single, but ultimately, you can get away with either. The double chain also might be a little more durable.
