What I'd like to know is HOW does one tell if he has sound focus rings on a drum? I called Tama and was told by tech support that the shell is thicker at the ends of the drum. Does that mean the shell is tapered/graduated at the ends or is there a seperate strip of wood mounted on top of the inner shell???? Per the tech "it's just thicker." (edit) OK, I looked at the inner shell and don't actually see anything that would lead me to believe I have a thicker shell right before the bearing edges. Does anyone have a definitive answer on this? Is there -any- identifying marks, etc., that would inform me that I have SF rings? TIA

There's the shell, then at the top and bottom are wooden rings inside the shell that are very clearly defined. There's no tapering. If they're there, you'll see them.

Thanks. I should know better than to ask a company's own tech-support people about thier own products! Wink Indeed, it appears I do not have the rings. Thanks again.
