Hi,

Im new to the forum, so i hope this goes up in a place where lots of people will c it.

Im starting a ska band, so im going to need a new kit, which is bad cos i no ska kits r expensive. Im going to be doing skacore and fast paced stuff and i dont have a clue where to start. For cymbals i want loud explosive crashes and splashy shimmering cymbals that stay shimmering for long, and for a drum kit i dont mind whether its a 4 piece or a 5 piece. My budget will be ne thing from £800 - £1000 (sorry for being english)

ideas and suggestion?

evan

Hey man!
Well, you already have the advantage of knowing what type of sound you want for your cymbals, now it's just a matter of going in to the drum store, trying cymbals out on a kit, and seeing if the sound and price match your budget! Personally, I wouldn't recommend siding with any one brand, so use your ear. However, do check Sabian's stuff out.

As for the kit, since you're in England, check out Premiers stuff. Everything down to the Cabria line should work great, I think.

I play some punk/ska music. Here's what I reccomend:

Almost any 4 piece drumset. Make sure its maple. Depends on price range... But make sure to get a piccolo snare. or at least 5" or smaller. tuned VERY TIGHT. Prefferibly metal snare.

Hi-Hats- Zildjian A Custom Projection Hats 14"
or
Zildjian A Custom Hats 13"

Ride - Zildjian A Ping Ride - 20"

Crashes - Zildjian A Custom Projection - 16"
Paiste Signature Series Fast Crash - 16"
Zildjian K Custom Dark Crash - 18"

Effects - Wuhan China 18"
Sabian AAX 10" Splash

Well there is no such thing as a ska drumkit so you're going to have to try out different sets in your price range until your satisfied, the cabria is a quality made drumset with a good sound for the price, they are suited for many different types of music and I'm sure they'd work good for ska. Sauren or someone else might have more specs. on them though.
