This is a message to any kind of drummer that is thinking there ability
is not that good or confidence in themselves is lacking or dont know where
to turn , who to ask what to do about it!!
~JEEZ~ i've been there.
I am writing this because all i see around here is the 'tech-talk'
(which IS a good thing), but to the begginer might all sound too
much to take in.
Rudements obviously are important , but what if you dont know any
or cant afford to have tuition as you have scrapped up all the cash
just for your beloved kit? what then?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am self taught. Yes i have struggled at times and to be honest
i cant afford to give up my day job to persue a life in drums professionally.
There are patterns i still cant play , sometimes my left side goes weak
(groans) , but to overcome all this ...
God *Holy Censor, Batman* I Love To Play
What i am getting at (for all those who maybe lost a little faith) is stick to your guns, Play the drums your way, if it sounds good , cool
ENJOY YOURSELF!
I cant tell you whats good or where to go how to do it , LEARN...
Am sure other Better players will try and tell me different, but am meening no harm , all i am saying is keep the faith , ENJOY!
If you can afford it , get lessons do anything possible to make yourself
that more complete drummer.
Heres 2 tips for Y'all ......
Tip # 1 go to Vic Firth website for Rudements.
Tip # 2 Buy a few meters of fish tank tubing. Cut up and use as sleeves
over your cymbal tilters.
ENJOY your drumming. _________________ Radio 1 D J !

Cut this up to about 1 " and slide over your cymbal tilters
this is helping to stop the ~Key-Hole~ effect in the center
Cymbals man ...cost
Helped me loads. _________________ Radio 1 D J !

| Learn by trying to copy others too. Just play along to your favorite music. So what if at first some of the things have to be simplified. As you play more, the more you'll improve. Also, learning how to read music, is a good way to get some of the basics down. That, and most beginner books are not too expensive, and pretty good tools. Play the lines with a click, and go faster and faster. |

great post drum solo
i agree 100% that drumming is not a competitive sport
first and foremost i'm sure that most of us simply love the instrument, and those that dont have probably just forgotten how they once felt
i was attracted to this forum because it such a friendly vibe. hopefully it will stay that way

| I'm putting alot of effort into to drums. I'd rather get good enough now so that I could make a living. If I extend my education into University it should help out quite a bit. I find it kind of neat when I play, because other drummers say how I "inspire" them as drummers. Good attitudes towards people tend to make them try harder to get better, but some really arrogant players who tend to vocalize criticism towards the drum player gets a bit irritating. I'm a critical person, so I tend to notice alot of "errors" or "small things" in their playing that need work. I generally keep it to myself unless that person asks me about things. That way it's more like constructive criticism then blowing their minds with a bunch of egotistical baggage etc. I also like to steal ideas from other drummers and try integrating them into my playing style. So it's alot of give and take. |

cool idea with the fish tank tubing. I didn't know about that one. I got some nice clear (smoke colored) tubing at Home Depot, it came in a 10' length, so much cheaper than actual packaged cymbal sleeves... and the nice thing is, you can cut it to YOUR preferred length. My Yamaha Stands seem to like longer sleeves than are easily found! _________________ Let that snare drum ring! |
