kk im new and im looking around now at gettin a new kit, ive gota pearl target atm ..... anyways ive herd the diff between birch maple, oak and i have decided to go for birch - for its punchy highend goodness.
Im gettin a 6pce no matter what kit i get.
Pearl 8 10 12 14 toms 20 basedrum
or gretsch 8 9 11 14 toms 20 basedrum
Ive seriously looked at the Gretsch Catalina and prolly gonna end up gettin it, mainly because its around 1200 bux cheaper than any other birch kit around. So does anyone here own one? any problems etc? the only negitive is the tom sizes.. weird tom sizes.. may end up with some iffy overtones..
Then theirs the SBX session birch that isnt even releasd in Australia yet.. (Another 2 months or so) ive herd all good things about the maple sessions, so i assume the birch would be fine: the only negitive is that it would cost me around $1200 extra : wouldnt be able to geta rack and have to wait a while to afford carry bags.
ive finally got the money together after saving for 2 years so i wanna make the write choice.. if i get the catalina the money i would be saving id spend on a rack - Gibraltar GRS-350 and drum case's.
Are their any other birch semi-pro kits that i should consider?
I perfer the look of the Gretsch as apposed to the session thinking of gettin the Vintige burst http://www.gretschdrums.com/pics/models/CA-825(vb)_lg.jpg (does it look woody in real life or orangy like the pic - i love the orangey look ) those drums on a Gibraltar rack would be v nice.. I guess im gettin sick of pearl - maybe because my current and my last kit are both pearl. Sorta becomes standard.. but i do like the tom mounts / heardware of the sessions tho..
So either
SBX - Sexy session - 6pce (standard setup no rack / tom stand thngo)
Gretsch Catalina birch - with rack and carry bags. (and prolly still end up with some cash left over)
Really would love some help
