The time has come to finally retire my favorite Ludwigs. I've played drums on and off for over thirty years. I still love the sound, but I'm tired of stripping out drum keys every time I set up and break down. The set screws are just too worn, the mounts are flakeing and I don't have the time to refurbish any of it.
I had thought a few years back, when I bought my Yamaha Stage Custom set, that It would provide me with the easy set up/breakdown solution. Which it did, ( The tom mount hardware is excellent). But... I just was not happy with the sound. The toms are lively enough but the 22'' Bass and 16'' Floor could'nt come close to replicating that deep Ludwig Maple tone.
I've pretty much talked myself into buying a new set. I have $2500-3000 to spend on just shells, so I'm thinking lets go custom. I've been doing quite a bit of research on GMS and Maryland and really do like what both have to offer. Maryland has the price advantage but the GMS sound is awesome. Not to say that the Maryland's don't sound good either cause there close, but you know.
Does anyone out there have expiriance with these manufacturers good or bad. Please help!.....
