Well I was tired of the crappy factory bass batter side head so I went to Guitar center and bought a Aqaurian Superkick 2.
It sounds Great compared to the factory head but the only thing I noticed that I dont like is it sounded too low pitched so I put my blanket back to muffle it even more and I think it sounds pretty good now, I guess the blanket cut out the rest of the overtones or something
Anyways I think this is a pretty good bass head. I might try out the aquarian tom/snare heads next time they need changed. |

Super Kicks are GREAT. I have a Super Kick II and a Regulator with no extra internal muffling . . . all I can say is BOOM!
One day you will learn to appreciate those overtones, young grasshoppa. _________________ "If I didn't make a living beating things with a stick, I'd probably be in a lot of trouble!" - Alex Van Halen |

| Congrats on the Superkick. I'm confused, though. Most drummers want that good, low pitch out of their bass drums and go to great lengths to get it. You say the head is too low, however? Could you not simply crank it down a little tighter? |

Well when I tune it about another 1/2 turn higher it must hit a bad spot, It has very little sustain and sounds kinda wierd. But if I turn it another 1/2 turn or so higher it has plenty of sustain but is too high pitched.
I have now grown accustomed to the lower pitch so its no big deal no.
I think why I thought it sounded too low is because I was used to using a single ply head that was tuned pretty high and had a big blanket to muffle it down.
If you want I can make a recording of my bass so you can see if it sounds too low/high, Im just a begginer so I dont really know much about tuning yet--I just tune them to what I think sounds good. |

| Sure! Make a recording. Us dogs will give it a listen and give you our opinions. However, unless we all have nice, full-range speakers on all of our computers, your recording is going to sound different to each of us. What might sound too high for one person might be simply because his/her speakers don't properly reproduce the lows. Still, go ahead and record it. I'd like to hear it, nonetheless. |

| wouldn't the pillow have lowered the pitch a bit too? i used to have a remo single ply head with a white in it and the single ply just doesn't work for me at all unless it's an EMAD. i'm still using a pillow with the thicker EMAD muffling though, but is sounds great, so i don't see the point of using single ply heads on bass drums at all unless you choke the resonance to death with muffling, but then you can't hear it! |
